Blockhouse sits inland of Lunenburg, between the town and Bridgewater. It’s smaller and more rural than either — a mix of newer builds, established family homes, and older farmhouses across the surrounding land. The weather here behaves more like inland Nova Scotia than the coast: full temperature swings, freeze-thaw on north-facing walls, and serious UV in the summer on south-facing exteriors. Less raw salt air than the shore towns, but everything else the region throws at paint still applies.

For interiors of newer homes and updated farmhouses, Dulux Diamond is the standard — scrub-resistant, holds its colour, and levels well on drywall.
For exteriors — clapboard, vinyl-primer combinations, trim, and doors — Dulux Weathershield with the right primer will hold up to a decade of the full four-season swing. Older farmhouse wood benefits especially from a proper primer step under Weathershield, since the substrate has usually moved and cracked over the years.
For barns, sheds, outbuildings, and any exterior wood that’s in the weather without much protection, Wood-Pride Solid Stain is often the better call. It recoats without stripping and handles UV and freeze-thaw with less fuss than a full paint system.
