161 Montague Street sits in the commercial heart of Lunenburg’s UNESCO World Heritage Old Town. For locals that means the paint counter is a walk from most streets in the Old Town — a walk from King, Prince, Duke, Lincoln, and every street the Old Town grid runs. Street parking on Montague is right in front of the door if you’re driving. No trip to Halifax and back, no drive to Bridgewater and back, no drive at all if you live in the Peninsula.
We keep the shop open Monday to Saturday, 8 to 4. Come by in the morning, come by on a Saturday — the fan decks travel home with you, and we tint the paint in front of you when you’re ready to buy.

Lunenburg is a UNESCO site because the streetscape is largely intact — the clapboard, the bay windows, the setback doors, the colours down each block. Our shop is one of those buildings; the fan deck we hand you belongs to the same street you’re painting on.
Painting in the Old Town isn’t the same as painting a new build in the county. Some of the wood is over 200 years old and moves with the weather. The salt air off the harbour eats anything that isn’t built for it. Colour choices sit inside a streetscape, not on their own. And repainting an Old Town exterior isn’t cheap, so the paint you choose needs to hold up for a decade before you touch it again.

For exteriors — clapboard, trim, doors, and window sashes — we start with Dulux Weathershield and a compatible primer. It’s built for coastal weather and designed to flex with old wood substrates. For any exterior wood that’s more exposed to weather — decks, thresholds, south-facing sashes — we point you at Wood-Pride Solid Stain, which recoats without stripping if you catch it in time.
For interiors of heritage houses, Dulux Diamond is the workhorse — the ceramic microspheres make it scrub-resistant on plaster walls and around any doorway that gets more attention than it wants. For rentals or occupied turnovers where you can’t clear the room, we swap to Lifemaster, which is ultra-low-VOC and barely smells during application.
